These look very much like the stick insects that we have here in north central Fl. I only see them in autumn, when they come down out of the oak trees to find mates. Every year there are 8 or 9 pairs who prefer to stay under the eaves of the house, or in dark protected areas around the buildings. The females are at least 4-5 inches long, males are about half as big.
