Around Christmas,1997, I was living in Cary, NC. There was a flock of Evening Grosbeaks that fed at my bird feeders several times. This has been the only tme I have seen them in this area. My feeders contained a song bird mix that was largely black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, dried cherries and peanuts.

Although not common, they do nest in this region. They love black sunflower seed, but will also eat small fruits (flowering crab) and nuts.

The pair of Evening Grosbeaks I've seen at Hamburg are migrants and I only see them a couple days in the Spring and again in the Fall.
