The common waxbill has been seen in small mixed feeding flocks in a grassy area in downtown Honolulu in KawaiaHa'o Plaza fronting King St. and on the campus of the University of Hawai'i, Manoa campus near Dean Hall. Oh da cute!

Common Waxbill (Estrilda astrild) a native of Africa was introduced to Oahu Island, Hawaii, in the early 1900s. Today they are one of the most abundant birds on Oahu. Feeding primarily on grass seeds, flocks of 10 to 50 Common Waxbills can be seen foraging, in the large open grassy lawns, of Kapi'olani Park, between Waikiki and Diamond Head Crater.
